Know every rock and shoal within a five fathom line on a four mile stretch of coast in the area your Troop operates in.

Know all the danger spots for swimmers and visitors and what to do if they get into difficulties.  If on tidal waters know the places where persons are liable to be cut off by the tide.

Know where the moon rises and sets in its quarter.

Know the best landing places for boats and where they may shelter and find safe anchorage under all weather conditions.

Make a rough sketch chart of local waters showing principal danger points, shoals, lights and channels.

Know the light houses which can be seen on your strip of coast and describe the lights they exhibit.

 

 

 

 

 

7.

 

Know the routine followed in your own home waters in the event of a serious accident along the shore, the information to include Coast Guard stations, telephone numbers and addresses of doctors and police.

 

 

 

 

 

8.

 

Know the mercantile code of signals.

 

 

 

 

 

9.

 

Know the marks of fishing boats and the national and house flags of all ships that regularly pass through the home waters of the Troop.

If on tidal waters know the rise and fall of tides, both spring and neap, and how to ascertain the times of high and low water.

 

 

 

 

 

11

 

 

Know the set of current at all stages of the tide in the home waters of the Troop.
