Winter Good Turns

bulletGathering firewood from the woods, for an aged couple or needy home.
bulletCutting and piling firewood in a handy place for those who cannot do it for themselves.
bulletKeeping paths clear of snow around the Scout's own home, and for a helpless neighbor.
bulletLooking after the furnace and ashes in the Scout's own cellar, and where trouble in a neighbor's home calls for such a Good Turn.
bulletKeeping fire hydrants dear of snow.
bulletTaking care of bird shelters and feeding stations where there are winter birds.
bulletHaving an eye open for unprotected horses and stray animals suffering from cold.
bulletMaking use of Merit Badge knowledge, such as plumbing, in time of need.
bulletMarking danger spots at skating resorts.
bulletGuarding school children at the foot of coasting hills.
bulletSubstituting for the church janitor in the care of the furnace in an emergency.
bulletLending skates and sleds to boys and girls who cannot afford them.
bulletEstablishing an emergency station where there is skating, equipped with plenty of rope, one or two sleds, and boards, and other life-saving apparatus, ready for use in case of anyone's breaking through the ice; where feasible, Scouts in relays in charge during skating hours. (This "Good Turn" is primarily a community responsibility, and Scouts should work proper authorities.)
