2nd Comanche Dance of Zunis
|
|
Second Comanche Dance of the Zunis A chorus of men, as in the preceding description; also the background of women. The dancers were two men, four women, and one impersonated Coyote. The women dancers wore red skirts, turquoise-blue waists, buckskin shirts like men's, fringed. The men dressed as in the preceding dance. The Coyote wears a headdress like the head of a Coyote. The entrance was in a straight line-a man, four women, a man; the Coyote followed and capered about in all directions, doing any step so long as it was in rhythm. Throughout the dance, frequent yelps by the dancers. There were two principal steps, which I have used in the following routine. The music is not what was used on that occasion, but carries the dance. See Also:Comanche Dance of ZuniComanche Dance of Woodcraft |
