Gathering Seeds for planting.

Setting Out Trees: (in the spring and fall)  This well-known Scout Good Turn can generate good publicity for your Scouting group.

bullet

Marking Trees for Thinning: a good objective for a one-day hike.

bullet

Thinning Trees: helps pass the Second Class saw and ax requirements and, after the green wood has seasoned, will provide fuel.

bullet Marking Trees for Spring Transplanting: there could be no more telling monument so effective to winter camping than the transplanting to localities favorable to their growth of young trees of known varieties. This transplanting needs to be preceded by careful preparation on winter camping and hiking trips when Scouts have sought out and marked promising young trees and obtained the consent of their owners to move them where they will have opportunity for proper development.
bullet Exhibits of Grafts: not so hard to learn to do.  Write the Forestry Department for help.
